Mogadishu Wet feeding centers Throughout the course of 2007, the humanitarian situation in central and southern Somalia continued to deteriorate, as the Western-backed Transitional Federal Government (TFG), supported by Ethiopian military forces, attempted to crush opposition to its rule by force-of-arms.
Mogadishu is the historical capital of Somalia, and is easily the largest population cluster in the country. It has also been the heart of ongoing instability in the country that has left it in an anarchic state for the past 24 years. Throughout 2007, the TFG/Ethiopians attempted to crush opposition to their rule in Mogadishu. The result was 1.2 million displaced; with 500,000 in critical need of lifesaving assistance.

In 2011, there had been an outbreak of humanitarian crisis which was as a result of the absence of the long awaited rains in south and central Somalia. These have drastically all affected both human and livestock in the remote areas. The local populations have evacuated to the urban towns for survival thus joining the large numbers of IDPs who formerly have been in the IDPs camps of Mogadishu especially Yaqshid district. WFP launched food assistance interventions in many parts of Somalia; Wet feeding program was one of the main interventions which saved lives of many IDPs and poor host communities in Banadir region.
The project was requested by the local community elders of the district calling for emergency response by the humanitarian actors on the ground. KAAH organization did need assessment in the four wards with special focus on the drought affected, conflict affected flood affected and returnees as a result of fighting that erupted where they fled for safety. The need for wet feeding activities in Yaqshid was prioritized for life saving for those under food insecure condition especially women and children under five in IDP camps. This project started 1st-Jan and ended on 31st Dec. KAAH Relief and Development Organization had to distribute cocked meals targeting 4,000 recipients. Meals which consisted of cereals, pulses, cooking oil and CSB were prepared and distributed daily. This project was funded by WFP and implemented by KAAH in close collaboration with its stakeholders.
