Background Information
KAAH Relief and Development Organization abbreviated as KAAH is a National humanitarian organization working in Somalia since its establishment the year 2001. KAAH is a non-profit making organization to address and mitigate the effects of biting natural and man-made disasters and the socio-economic problems in Somalia. It is an initiative formed to resist prolonged insecurity and droughts in Somalia and the increased lack of humanitarian access and humanitarian services to victims in Somalia.
KAAH targets vulnerable beneficiaries both in urban and rural areas on life-saving activities through emergency response, recovery, livelihoods, and developmental activities. With regards to the absence of the socio-economic infrastructure and the systems of governance and institutions which led to the collapse of livelihoods and all the basic services of many communities. The organization also focuses on governance projects of peace building and development initiatives. KAAH since its inception and mutual partnerships with global development and local partners has been able to implement humanitarian protection activities in collaboration with its stakeholders.
In partnership with Somali Humanitarian Fund (SHF), KAAH is implementing Nutrition program, titled ‘Increase access to quality lifesaving preventive and curative nutrition services among boys and girls (06-59) months & PLW through systematic identification, referral, and treatment of acutely malnourished cases in Dhusamareeb of Galgadud region’.
Overall Job Purpose
Nutrition Manager is the technical leadership of the nutrition program including implementation, coordination, guiding staff, and quality monitoring. The standard salary for this position is $ 3,500. 50% will charged to this project
Duties and Responsibilities
Nutrition Management
- Responsible for the implementation, management, supervision and support of the assigned nutrition project in line with the activity plan and time frame of the relevant project proposal and any applicable national and international guidelines and standards.
- Conduct regular field trips to health facilities and outreach locations for support and supervision.
- Ensure that regular monitoring and evaluation assessments are conducted both against project objectives and to ensure the quality of the programme.
- Provide input into the integration of beneficiary participation and accountability in all aspects of the project.
- Oversee the process of data collection, collation and dissemination to meet the requirements and deadlines set by KAAH and/or external partners.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities for internal and external reports (e.g. weekly, monthly, quarterly and final reports) as requested by Executive Director, HQ and donors
- Line manage and oversee the assigned nutrition team including recruitment, day-to-day management, development and training, appraisals, etc.
- Facilitate regular team meetings with the assigned nutrition team, reviewing team and individual objectives, ensuring team members are kept informed of issues relevant to their work and providing an opportunity for feedback.
- Design and undertake capacity building strategy for Nutrition programme staff in order to ensure quality service delivery.
- Assess training needs for the nutrition staff and ensure appropriate training is conducted.
- Promote the health and security of the nutrition team by ensuring the application of security guidelines.
Financial Management
- Work with the relevant managers to plan, construct and manage nutrition budgets for the assigned nutrition project.
- Coordinate and oversee petty cash requirements of the assigned nutrition team, ensuring all required paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
Communication and Coordination
- Develop and maintain appropriate, regular, transparent and supportive communication structures with the assigned nutrition team, KAAH health and nutrition managers and advisors and other relevant stakeholders (e.g. beneficiaries, community leaders, local and national government officials, UN agencies, implementing partner NGOs and other NGOs)
- Represent KAAH at relevant local level coordination meetings involving local authorities, UN agencies and other NGOs.
- Maintain communication with nutrition partners (OCHA and Unicef) regarding any changes of the project implementation e.g. insecurity in project locations, population movement Logistics.
- Manage the correct and timely ordering (within budgetary constraints) of all necessary medicines, supplies and equipment for the assigned nutrition facilities and activities, ensuring minimum stocks are maintained and items are stored and distributed correctly.
- Ensure timely requests are submitted to nutrition partners (WFP and Unicef) to release and deliver Nutrition supplies at the designated warehouses.
- Coordinate with the logistics team and ensure proper warehouse management including stock cards, stock outs, monthly inventory etc.
- Work closely with the logistics team for staff movement to field locations e.g. hiring of cars.
Quality Management
- Implement, as far as is possible within operational constraints, relevant policies and standards relating to nutrition service delivery including Sphere and HAP standards, national requirements and donor guidelines and other good practice.
- Participate as requested KAAH internal workshops and distance learning sessions to keep up with changing trends, new guidelines and best practices.
- Ensure nutrition assessments and interventions are in line with relevant national and international quidelines (MUAC, CMAM, IYCF)

Required Skills and Experience
- Master’ degree in a Nutrition, public health or any other related field.
- 4 years post-qualification professional experience in a relevant field
- 3 years of experience in primary health care or emergency context Written and oral fluency in English.
