Background Information
KAAH Relief and Development Organization abbreviated as KAAH is a National humanitarian organization working in Somalia since its establishment the year 2001. KAAH is a non-profit making organization to address and mitigate the effects of biting natural and man-made disasters and the socio-economic problems in Somalia. It is an initiative formed to resist prolonged insecurity and droughts in Somalia and the increased lack of humanitarian access and humanitarian services to victims in Somalia.
KAAH targets vulnerable beneficiaries both in urban and rural areas on life-saving activities through emergency response, recovery, livelihoods, and developmental activities. With regards to the absence of the socio-economic infrastructure and the systems of governance and institutions which led to the collapse of livelihoods and all the basic services of many communities. The organization also focuses on governance projects of peace building and development initiatives. KAAH since its inception and mutual partnerships with global development and local partners has been able to implement humanitarian protection activities in collaboration with its stakeholders.
In partnership with Somali Humanitarian Fund (SHF), KAAH is implementing Nutrition program, titled ‘Increase access to quality lifesaving preventive and curative nutrition services among boys and girls (06-59) months & PLW through systematic identification, referral, and treatment of acutely malnourished cases in Dhusamareeb of Galgadud region’.
Overall Job Purpose
CNWs will convey nutrition messages through house to house visits and community gathering. Screening and identification of malnourished children and PLW women.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate community mapping and mobilization through ensuring participation of all level of people.
- Arrange community meetings with elders’ community leaders and local stakeholders.
- Provide support to Midwife to establish and function Community Health Service Point.
- Maintain collaboration with PBHS and EPHS.
- Assist to strengthen referral system on material healthcare and nutrition.
- Assist Midwife and Doctor to provide ANC and PNC services and develop a database for it through Health Service Points and existing service mechanism.
- Identification of PSS patients and provide PSS support with the assistance of Midwife or Doctor.
- Participate meeting as requested by senior nutrition teams.
- Establish Mothers’ Group and facilitate regular meeting with the mother groups;
- Arrange Cooking Demonstration of Nutritious food for children;
- Conduct Screening to identify SAM and MAM children;
- Development of referral system for SAM and MAM children;
- Establish and functioning Youth Club;
- Any other tasks assigned by line manager.
Required Skills and Experience
- High school certificate or other related field is required.
- Experience in the area of nutrition promotion and addressing malnutrition.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the same position.
- Previous experience in NGOs/Donor funded programs is preferred.
- Working experience of one year in IMAM or Maternal and Child Health program
- Excellent written and spoken skills in English.
- Experience in nutrition program and community work.
- Good relations with other people.
- Good capacity to work in a team and flexibility.
- Excellent communication (written and oral), editing, and advocacy skills.
- Computer literate in (Microsoft word, excel, and power point presentation.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
